Don’t forget that in economy that upon instructions you are supposed to adopt the brace position by resting your head on your arms on the seat in front of you (unless you can’t reach - such as in exit row). So that is what reduces the impact not the smaller distance meaning less acceleration. Your body is not speeding up - it’s already travelling at the speed of the plane.

Not quite, NS Dan. Angled seats are required to have shoulder harnesses due to the somewhat sideways position if thrown forward. I can’t think of an airline that doesn’t put them on all business class seats if there are any angled seats in the cabin, even if technically not required on the seats that are facing straight forward. Otherwise, if it were a case of distance to the seat in front of you, shoulder harnesses would be required on quite a few economy seats that have several feet of empty space in front of them, such as those at doorways and some bulkhead seats. However, there are absolutely safety requirements that consider force absorption by seat backs in front of you in all seats.

That’s because the new business seats are facing forward at an angle to maximize space. Old business class did not have this because they all just face forward. Old business seats were more like a lazy recliners. Now they make it flat, but angled and took away some shoulder width. I like the older recliner configuration better.

and you wanna know something that is making your flights cost far more,
With these types of belts they come in multiple parts, one parts keeps failing. However, the manufactures refuse to sell it separately. so then airlines have to buy the entire assembly. Which which costs from about 300 to 1000 depending on the model.
just so that they can replace one item, then then throw the rest of it away. since it is now, "incomplete" So that cost is added to the cost of tickets
