By the end of 1942, the answer to the question 'How many guns do you want on this thing" was "All of them."

On that day the North Carolina became the Big E's favorite anti-air escort.

The North Carolina was an absolute bad ass and a monster of an Anti-Aircraft Battleship.

I have visited North Carolina several times. I live about 2 hr drive from her. When they were replacing the deck, I helped by filling out 3 cardboard holder of quarters. They had a statewide fundraiser. I have a small piece of her teak deck. It has what looks like a a place where a bullet ricochetted off it

On permanent display in Wilmington, NC she is a sight to behold. The first time I saw her awed me even to this day. Her refits after this battle brought on even more AA guns and firepower.I am so glad they preserved her she is truly a majestic lady.

The “Showboat” (BB-55) was the namesake of the North Carolina class of Fast Battleships (only 2 built) and is now a museum in Wilmington, NC. I highly encourage a visit if you’re into history and in the area. The engineering that went into those battle wagons was incredible for the time.

"Are you afire?" - Big E to the North Carolina out of the mentioned concern
THAT is one of my favorite quotes from the Pacific Theater. It is this feat & being the center of the Big E's shield...that cemented her as my favorite WW2 battleship in that side of the world. Couldn't ask for a single better protector.

I never tired of the great stories from WW2 the greatest generation unquestionably. I was born a decade after the war but have had the pleasure of knowing veterans from the time. We had 2 MOH men in our small community and I spoke With Larry Lowthorp recently.Larry repaired airframes of aircraft in the south Pacific in ww2. He is 100 this year. When I met him at age 65 he was fit as a 40 year old. Remarkable generation

The SoDaks NCs and Iowas. It was a testament to them that not a single fast battleship was severely damaged by attacking aircraft.

Not a single plane that attacked her that day made it back. What an absolute savage crew.

Love the quality of the footage.
When I compare it to what TV channels used to have just a short time ago, I'm deeply impressed!

Visiting the North Carolina back in ‘93 was one of the coolest and most worthwhile things I’ve ever done.

From the Big E the history of the USS Enterprise, "Get over closer to that Big Bastard. He's shooting down the sky."
