You see, it all started in the 1850s when the island of Zanzibar became independent from the Sultanate of Oman.
The British Empire grew worried that the Germans might try to take over the island, so they declared Zanzibar its protectorate. Zanzibar was okay with this arrangement until August 25, 1896, when the Sultan passed away.
The next day, the Zanzibari Prince occupied the sultan's place and refused to accept the British Empire's preferred successor. The British sent an ultimatum, demanding to stand down or the Royal Navy would open fire at 9 a.m. the following morning.
When the ultimatum expired, Five British ships attacked Zanzibar, and after just 38 minutes of bombardment, the white flag of surrender was raised. Marking it as the shortest war in history.

This is wrong. There was a country named the conch republic that still exists today. It is part of Florida keys and is very small. Due to an issue with the US border patrol, they declared war on the US, and surrendered within a minute, making that the shortest war
