Love the mic setup. I need more of that.

I ate the silica gel beads once as a kid, they were very crunchy but I don't remember much else.

I ended up buying a vacuum bag kit for my filament. The bags, silica packs, and pump came out to less than $20. Absolutely worth it.

Make/buy a dry box, basically a sealed box filled with silica beads, and a PTFE filament tube that connects to the printer. Keeps filament dry during prints.

I resurrected my spools of filament by putting them in my modified dehydrator at 135*F for 6 hours. Just like I pulled them out of a fresh box.

Just take the cardboard box they come in, take the lid off, punch a few small holes in the bottom for ventilation, put the Spool on the bed and heat it to like 40C and place the upside down box, with the holes facing up, over the Spool and after a few hours it's dried and the filament no longer has those imperfections and you don't have to buy a dedicated filament dryer. Or if you want the filament to keep dry while it's printing, you can just get one of those dryers that allow you to feed it while it's in the dryer.

Yeah, it’s much more noticeable with petg and tpu, they become unprintable or just print like absolute trash. I leave my pla unsealed and it usually holds up fine.

The real-world info is valuable and appreciated...

TPU is even worse, to the point where for best results you should bake it in the oven before printing lol

I use a 1 gallon Ziploc freezer bag for my filament after use it works great! I’m in a very dry climate so that might be why

i would recommend a humidity controlled chamber to keep ur pla in , some even come with a dehydration mode an conditions filiments for prints ;)

In my experience Esun PLA+ is quite moisture sensitive compared to other brands. Not only does the absorbed moisture bubble up during extrusion, it can also hydrolyze components of the plastic, resulting in a weaker/more brittle final product.

make a spool enclosure. I punched a couple of holes in a 2 gallon bucket. Like the man said, unused rolls need to be stored away from mosture. But a food dehydrator does a nice job of removing moisture if your having problems with a spool.

I cant believe you just revealed the secret of how delicious silica is

This is true almost everywhere and it's great advice kinda no matter what. However, interestingly in my area the humidity is SO low that this doesn't happen. Same reason that bread will lose its moisture within an hour if you leave it out. Kinda fun science fact.

Vaccum bags and pop the rolls in the oven or a dehydrator low for awhile it helps so much

The filament driers work fairly well, nice if you have a wide range of colors you won’t use quick or if you use stuff like tpu which clogs like crazy if it absorbs moisture.

Filament dryers. Also there are plenty of dry box setups you can build to keep filament dry. Or if you live in a hotter climate, you can store it outside. As long as it’s above 70°F.

I’m working on building a dry box right now.

If you are really in a pinch, you can preheat your bed to 50°C and place your filament down and under a box. It should dry out in a few hours.
