I needed something to open up the gap on the far end boom to install the stick...and I did it with a simple bolt and a nut.

Nice fix. It's a really good thing that you didn't want any grease in between those two pieces of tight steel.

It's just the thickness of the powdercoat.

If it was me, I would've prior to trying to insert it, I would have ground off the coating on each end of the Bushing hinge point assemblies on both the inside of the outer hinge enough to put a Teflon bushing setting between the 2 of them with it spread out, so when it closes it makes a good tight fit, yet allows for a good smooth movement of both pieces.

I did that on 3 or 4 backhoes many years ago and they're still working with no problem. I agree with using a good grease to go to their, if need be.

You can make a spreader with a piece of pipe, a length of threaded rod, a washer, and a nut. As you tighten the nut against the washer resting on the pipe, it pushes the threaded rod out and spreads the gap. You can use a bolt too if it's long enough

The thickness of the paint/powder coating! Had he taken a razor and cleaned it off it would have fit! By spreading the slot it allowed it to fit over the paint but as soon as you start working the arm itโ€™s going to remove the paint!

Gonna be allot of friction on that henge, the more the hydraulic system has to fight that henge the more power you will lose to the working portion of the arm, not much but food for thought

It's probably the paint that hasn't been removed from the machined surface.

Its actually meant to be that way. When we weld thst stuff we weld it so everything fits snug and with resistance. Makes sure everything stays tightly together and operates well
