Albert-László Barabási is a distinguished physicist, network scientist, and author renowned for his pioneering work in the field of network theory. He completed his education with a Master’s degree in theoretical physics at the University of Bucharest and a Ph.D. at Boston University. Barabási's research has significantly advanced our understanding of network topology and the dynamics of complex systems within various disciplines.

He is best known for his discovery of scale-free networks in the late 1990s, which revealed that networks across various fields—from the internet to human cells—share common architectural features and are characterized by the presence of hubs, or highly connected nodes. This groundbreaking insight has implications for understanding phenomena ranging from the spread of diseases to the robustness of the electrical grid.

BarabĂĄsi currently holds a position as a professor at Northeastern University, where he directs the Center for Complex Network Research. Additionally, he is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. His work has been published widely, and he has authored several influential books, including "Linked: The New Science of Networks" and "Bursts: The Hidden Pattern Behind Everything We Do," which explore the science of networks and its implications for understanding real-world issues.

Yeah but in order to really treat disease they don't just need a map of cells and genes, they also need maps of lifestyle, environment, and psycho-social interactions as well. Part of why western medicine often falls short is because it looks at all these things as separate things. They're not. Everything is interacting all the time, at every level. Disease is not just only genetic.

Cool glad we spent the money on such high minded pursuits, now maybe try to figure out basic lifesaving medical care and medicines that people can actually afford.

Genetics research drug development must not pay the drug companies very well. Maybe AI can do what our drug companies refuse to work on.
