I gave up the idea to run Linux on a windows xp machine from 2006-2007.
Ubuntu gave me insane lag and graphical glitches and lubuntu sat on itself after rebooting once. More recent versions of these distros didn't even boot. Ubuntu is insanely laggy and graphical glitches are everywhere, while opening menus ect. and even froze on me. Changing the resolution results in a black screen. Lubuntu de is kind of ugly. I'm done distrohopping (for now). On the other hand, windows just works
Let's not forget flashing the USB only works half the time.

I'm a software engineer. I've had to work with Linux extensively, even making kiosks off custom distros. Unless I have to for work, I am not touching Linux. Every single popular distribution I've tried has such a bad user experience compared to Windows. I still have nightmares of having to dive into the deep end of Linux for a job and dealing with the absolutely atrocious documentation, horrible setup processes, and disparate designs. All the pros for Linux are that you can customize it to make it kind of like windows... That's not a pro. If anything that's a con. That you have to do a bunch of work to make it as usable as something that runs out of the box. If you put the same amount of effort into customizing your Windows experience, you will have a much better experience than that same level of effort on a Linux system. But this is just my opinion, and I know there are others that have differing opinions. To each their own. All I will say further is that I would never recommend Linux to anyone, especially not a computer layman.

Great video, but I think a more useful use of an old computer would be to make it into a nas type device or some other kind of home server that can do a multitude of tasks, since you can play with all of those other operating systems in a virtual machine where you can undo any mistakes in a click of a button
