I quite enjoyed House of Leaves, however I get that its not a book for everyone. I think people, in general, need to learn that everyone has differing tastes. Its incredibly toxic to be leaving rude/nasty/deliberately hurtful comments purely because you didn't like a book that someone else did. Not everyone is going to like the same things you do, and that's okay. I think people have forgotten this, and its something that desperately need to be relearned.

I walk a strange line as most of my favoured books fall in the 3-star range, with either raving reviews or 1s, maybe 2s here or there. I had to learn fast how to disconnect from that personalness when it comes to my bookish enjoyments. And I'll say it until the end of time: a good, thought-out, critical, negative review of That Thing You Like is ambrosia! It is a wave of totally new perspective that will freshen your view of That Thing! It's healthier and will deepen your connection to That Thing. If you only let it.
...and as a Leafy House enjoyer, I shall enjoy my taste quite happily 😌

I think the most interesting part of House of Leaves is the bit where Hunter S Thompson and Anne Rice attempt to review The Navidson Record and thus these are the elements my own fiction ripped off rather than the misogyny, more books should have unsolicited celebrity cameos where they comment on fictional media. It was kinda fascinating in an Anno Dracula sort of way, and I was hoping you’d bring that part up when I watched your review dunking on most of what House of Leaves’ experimentation had to offer. I’m a he/they enby by the way, don’t lump me in with the masculine House of Leaves Stans.

I knew this would be either a House of Leaves (For the record I quite liked it) or Murakami reader.
