Another video in the series of affordable collectible guitars. Today we focus on the Squier Artist Series Tom DeLonge Stratocaster.
The Tom DeLonge Signature Fender Stratocaster was originally a Made in Mexico guitar made in 1999 and was in production until 2004.
Squier then followed up and released a more affordable version of the Fender guitar in 2001 and produced it until 2003.
The blink-182's guitarist's signature model Squier featured a 70s-era headstock and a Duncan Design Detonator Humbucking Pickup in the bridge position.
Years of Production: 2001 – 2003. My guitar was made in 2002. Amazing to me that I have a 22-year-old guitar from Squier that is all original.
The guitars were made In China
The guitar was part of the Squier Artist Series and holds the position as being the very first Squier Artist Series guitar ever released.
The body is made of Alder.
The guitar originally came in
• Black
• Surf Green
• Polar White
With a Finish Style of Gloss
It has a Bridge/Hard Tail Type String-Through like a telecaster.
The guitar has a bolt on maple neck with a rosewood fretboard. It has a C shape with a 9.5” fret radius a 25.5” scale length and 21 Medium Jumbo frets.
Pickup Configuration Single Humbucker with a single master volume control.
New the guitar originally sold for less than $200.
Used today the guitar goes for $314 to $559 depending upon condition.
My guitar has a little wear on the body and frets but is still very playable. The rosewood on the fretboard after conditioning is absolutely gorgeous. We really took things for granted back then. We could actually buy Squier guitars with rosewood fretboards. Amazing.
If you think about it this is basically an Esquire in a Stratocaster body. It has a single pickup in the bridge, hardtail string through body bridge, and reduced controls.
My guitar weighs in at 7 lbs and 7 ounces. The impedance measurement on the pickup is 16.25 k ohms.
The volume pot is a full-size pot and the soldering is done well.
The guitar intonates easily, and the tuners are great and hold the guitar in tune.
The pickup easily overdrives my small bench top amp.
Plugged into a larger amp the guitar will start to overdrive the amp at full volume. Roll back the volume and you can actually get clean sounds out of the guitar. Plugged into a Tube Screamer at full volume and she sings as a rock and roll beast.
My final observations. She needs a new output jack. This one cuts in and out. She also needs the volume pot replaced as it is very staticky even after cleaning.
