Imposter syndrome can also be tied to childhood abuse. I always feel like I'm gonna be in trouble or like someone is mad at me. I can literally go donate something to someone, use my own gas and time to take it to them, and I drive away anxious like I'm gonna be in trouble, like they're mad at me, like I did something wrong and didnt do enough. Like I'm gonna get the damn wrath. It's awful!! I work very hard every day to heal that part of me but damn it's woven into everything I do

I got a D*D grade on my L3 Art and Design course in Sixthform. I was predicted to get DM, but I thought I wasn’t going to get anything higher than MP or MM max. I kept feeling this and telling everyone how I don’t understand how it was possible for me to get the second highest grade.
I also felt the same thing in Highschool when I got my GCSE results. I was predicted to fail at the beginning of year 11, so I worked as hard as I could and passed all 9 GCSEs, mostly 4s, some 5s, and one legendary 6 for science which was weird because I hated science.
My point is, it takes a while to accept that it’s real and that you did earn it. Unfortunately, I am not at that stage yet still but I’m entering first-year University next week sooooo…

I graduated 5 years ago from college and I just now got over my imposter syndrome.. I feel kinda bad because I know I could be so far along in my career, but I'm just grateful I finally chose to believe in myself. And guess what! I got a job in my field today! Thank you Erin and to anyone with imposter syndrome. Do not let it stop you. Apply for that job. Keep reaching for opportunities. You deserve it and you CAN do it, so do it!<3

My job required a bachelors degree and preferred a masters. They opened an exception of 24 business hours. I finished requirement, got hired. Was held back for promotions due to not having a bachelors degree so i learned and volunteered for undesirable jobs well. Eventually i became part of leadership. I looked at it as doing my own apprenticeship, climbed in through the window when i couldn't get in through the front door. Just didnt talk about not having a degree. Everyone imagined i had a masters due to quality of my work.

I work in forensics, and I recall the first time I came face-to-face with my imposter syndrom. We were prepping for a mock trial and I was asked if I considered myself a Chemist, and I answered, "no."
My trainer followed up with, "why not?" And I froze.
It was this sudden realization that if anyone else told me they had a degree in Chemistry, and spent their days making reagents or testing samples, I'd call THEM a 'Chemist.'
It still took several years, and people newer to the field joining before that knee-jerk, "I don't belong here" reaction went away. But at least from that moment I knew to pause and start asking myself, "if someone else had my experience would I trust them to do this?"
Answer was always, without fail, "yes."

✨ ah, good old imposter syndrome. What a sneaky little thing.
Imposter Syndrome is the feeling that, despite evidence to the contrary, you are unqualified to be where you are. You are a fraud! It’s just a matter of time before everyone figures out you don’t know what you’re doing.
Well, my friends, I have some good news: literally no one knows what they’re doing.
Imposter syndrome isn’t a “syndrome” - it’s literally just being a self-aware human lol.
✨I literally made an entire show about this concept lol it’s called No One Knows What They’re Doing (@nooneknows.show)✨
I interview incredibly successful, world-renowned doctors, business moguls, thought leaders & they ALL ADMIT: “I don’t know what I’m doing”
Sure, people know HOW to do things.
🧑🏻⚕️ Operate on a knee
👨🏽💼Balance a spreadsheet
👩🏼💻 Design a logo
…but no one actually knows what they’re doing in life. We’re all winging it! Makin’ it up as we go along. Doing our best with the information we have.
Niel Armstrong wasn’t qualified to walk on the moon. For goodness sakes, he had like NEVER walked on the moon before 🙄
Do you hear how ridiculous that sounds?? You ARE prepared. You wouldn’t be given the opportunity if you were not ready for it.
So, turn down Sharon or Mike or Chad or whatever name you give to your inner imposter syndrome voice (I find it’s extremely effective to name it!)
You
