I play a larp that is a dark fairytail. My character is an irish dad who just wanted to go home to his kid but couldn't. As the years physically passed, I'd celebrate her birthday and lament her getting older. Soooo he ended up doing a magic ritual and splitting his soul... very dangerous. Half of him is home there with his mom and daughter, half home here with his found family. Sucessful but the sacrifice to get there was a lot

I don't remember for what module I made this guy. But I had this character that was pretty much a golem made to house the soul of an Old One, whose ritual ended up getting interrupted, and they awoke without the full conscience, believing themselves to be just a curious child who wanted to see the world, and how slowly across the campaign they were regaining pieces of who they really were, and how distant they've become from the world they once sought to seek. Because, what's more greedy, than the curiosity of a child that has grown too old for their toy box.

My boy Theodosius was a paladin of Moon, the god of final death in my DM at the time's homebrew campaign. His entire bloodline had dedicated themselves to Moon's worship and as a result ended up becoming notorious for their zealotry and cruelty, using a special type of metal in their weaponry that destroyed the souls of people the weapon killed. My boy on the other hand just wanted to do poetry and spend time with his childhood crush whom he grew up with.
They went to war together, and at the end his lover wound up killing him for reasons unknown only to bring Theo back himself a century later and that marked the start of the campaign. Good thing he had no idea who stabbed him otherwise he'd be VERY upset.
Since the campaign died I used him as an NPC for my own homebrew game, and now I'm working on making him a minor easter egg NPC for my Vampire: The Masquerade game.

I have 2 that sortof fit the bill. Though neither have specific games or settings yet so it could swing either way.
One is a twist on the witch trials, while being burned at the stake she ascepts a deal from an entity. Fufilling the towns madness but she did what she could inorder to stay with her family. Ala her husband and kids were mortified and confused so did not accsept her. (Whole shock of everything). To add further salt in the wound, it was a celestial. Not even an evil entity.
Another is an undead kiddo, that has a bit more complexity to it. So i wont go into detail haha.

Ironically I’ve made many dark and spooky girls, who aren’t so dark and spooky on the inside lol 😂 But by far the darkest character I played was for a villain prequal game for our main campaign.
I made a lawful evil seraphim inspired aasimar paladin (oath of watchers). Emilia was Sealed away for thousands of years she was reawakened by the BBEG who was only a young 17 year old at the time, she falsely believed the BBEG was her long dead god reincarnated into mortal flesh. Now the said BBEG is trying to ascend to godhood in the main campaign so… oops

Not yet, but plan to. When were finishing up our frostmaiden campaign one of the players is gearing up to run a campaign of Symbaroum by Free Legaue I am excited for that is more dark fantasy surrounding a big forest belt of a ancient woods called Davokar filled with ruins and secrets and a lot of danger. And its not less safe outside of it either with political machinations brewing in the cities.
Otherwise i gravitate to whimsier campaign styles and systems but its nice to switch it up a little.

Pretty much always. I've planned out characters for a specific world I've created but never played any, so I suppose the closest would be "Amaryllis" (placeholder name), who is investigating a rot near their home, a poisonous cluster of purple flora that creeps closer and closer every day. It amplifies magic but weakens physical strength, and seems to originate from the wrath of a long-forgotten God, something that may lead to something along the lines of an everlasting winter.
Anyways what's the song in the backround? 🙃

My Curse of Strahd character is one of my favourites. Her name was Beast, and she was a human reborn ranger with no memories of who she was before she died. She was good with a bow and had a pet boar named Thorn who was a very good boy
