It doesnโt matter what you use, you should use something like the Bosch multi material bits. They are a game changer for me. I fit aluminium windows and used to pilot with a combi, used a sds for the masonry and impact for fixing. Now I just use the combi for the pilot and masonry and finish with the impact. Game changer for speed and eliminating the fatigue and size of the heavier sds

I made this exact choice 5 years ago. A good robust drill (Makita) with lots of power, impact and hammer, which can handle all the big jobs. Supplemented with a very small 12 volt which I can get to pretty much everywhere (here the focus was precisely on being able to access all corners and nooks). It's the perfect combination and I have no regrets. So I can recommend your suggestion...!!
