For the encounter in Firkraags Dungeon alone, I'd say its worth it. That one is brutal, especially early on. Vampires are the most annoying enemies in the game imo. There are harder ones, but not more annoying ones.

They REALLY need to combine many of these enemies into one, like UNDEAD instead of all them separated

I'm not actually so sure how much the favored enemy bonus is.. +3/+3, like the Cavalier, I suspect.
It's just something I don't even notice. Minsc has Vampires, do you really notice a difference using MInsc or a regular fighter that does more damage to *everything*? I really don't. If I have a good aligned ranger to fight Vamps I am using Azuredge, so the damage is pointless. I wouldn't even know what Valygar's favored enemy is.
And, the only ranger I would play myself is an Archer. If my archer can hit the enemy, he's doing enough damage.
Icewind Dale has Skeletal/Corporeal/Spectral Undead. Corporeal are zombies, ghouls, wights, mummies, vampires and Liches. That would be perfect in BG2. [It is in IWD, but there's no Vamps in it and only one Lich]

Dragons are the only one who I think it's worth it since they have loads of health and the + damage is pretty good, specially for an archer.
