I got mine in 2006 drill Sgt Thorton, picking up brass and ammo after a live fire. I remember hearing " get out of my way private" 2X's, next thing I know im at parade rest seeing stars, being asked "did i brake your noise with my Kevlar". He was a good man.

Full Metal Jacket is so realistic, every scene.
No romanticized dialogue or acting, troops handled their rifles properly with the buttstock in the shoulder and lining up targets with iron sights.

The older I get, the more I look at basic training as absolutely barbaric. When we consider the brain doesn’t even develop until 25 and that the majority of enlisted are from messed up home life or poverty, the more we need to consider that we’re just traumatizing kids who are already traumatized. I went to Iraq, but man basic is where I got really messed up in the head. I had very cruel drill sergeants. Wish I had never enlisted, to be honest. I permanently destroyed my mental health for a meaningless war that destroyed so many lives. Same was true in Vietnam. This world is a savage place.
