The United Nations (UN) was established on October 24, 1945, shortly after World War II, with significant contributions from the United States. Recognizing the need for an international organization to prevent wars and promote peace, the U.S. took the lead in designing and founding the UN. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, along with other allied leaders, played a decisive role in shaping the structure and objectives of this organization. The 1945 San Francisco Conference, where the UN Charter was signed, saw active participation from 50 nations, with the U.S. leading the way. Not only was the U.S. one of the founding members, but it also became the largest financial contributor to the UN, providing substantial funding for global peacekeeping, security, and development programs. U.S. leadership has helped the UN become a vital platform for international dialogue and conflict resolution for over 75 years. The UN’s peacekeeping missions, humanitarian aid efforts, and global human rights initiatives are strongly influenced by the U.S.’s commitment and support.
