This is my full research presentation on my project, "Exosomal microRNA-124a: Novel Translational Astrocyte Repair in Reactive Astrogliosis in vitro", at the 2017 South Jersey Junior Science Symposium. I was recently awarded the grand prize of the 2017 Regeneron Science Talent Search for this work, and I hope to continue it in college.

I would really appreciate any and all feedback! Thank you for watching!

I find it amazing the research you have came upon. My son recently suffered from a brain bleed and has extensive brain damage to one side. Your experiment and findings really want me to pursue a way to use your research to help my child and to see if that could have a role in making him better. He's only 2 and now will have to learn all over again and doctors still don't know to what extent he will be capable of. I just want to say thank you for giving parents like me hope that our children may overcome the obstacles that we face.

My 26 year old son suffered a traumatic brain injury 12 years ago. He is in a wheelchair, non-verbal and peg-tube fed. He is like a child, and unaware of the extent of his injury. For the 1st time in 12 years I am crying tears of hope an happiness. Thank you so much for your devotion and congratulations. You're amazing.

Indrani, really nice talk. You speak clearly and better than many graduate students. One question-why do glutamate transporters translocate away from the membrane in astrocytes during acute injury? This seems counterintuitive. I would think that your exosomal treatment would only temporarily improve glutamate toxicity to neurons, since eventually the new transporters will be translocated away from membranes as well. Understanding the mechanisms of glutamate receptor translocation during acute injury is the key.Sandy Chang, MD PhD

There is a story of a 2 yo boy in Zionsville IN that you may be interested in following. If you have a minute, search for Light for Levi & Lainey, twins who nearly drowned. Levi was affected the most.

Your research is inspiring and provides so much hope for those affected by brain injuries!!!

Hi, Indrani!! Congratulations on your work... It's awesome knowing that someone so young cares so much about stroke and its consequences. I'm a neuroscience student from Brazil.....I would like to read your full research... Is there any possibility for you to tell where I can find it?

Hey Ms. Das, this is extremely impressive in general, but especially for someone your age.

I have a few questions, if you don't mind my asking, although if you don't want to answer, that's obviously totally fine. :P

How did you get access to the resources to conduct this research program (was it in partnership with a university?), where did you obtain the educational background and theory required for asking the correct research questions for success, and how did you get turned on to studying astrocytes in particular?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I'm absolutely blown away by the progress you've made, and how well the research was conducted, I'd love to know more about the process. ^_^ I'm involved with trying to get kids interested in science and engineering, and hearing more about how you achieved your level of success at such a young age could really be inspiring to students, I think. :)

Anyway, congratulations, and great presentation!

My 11 year old homeschooled daughter and I watched your talk for our science lesson this morning. Incredibly inspiring and a great catalyst for discussion and learning for this family! Thank you for being a great role model and for your quest for knowledge!

Hi Indrani! Great work. I am interested in using your method in my own research on addiction, which has glutamate maintenance disruptions as a part of its etiology. Will you be publishing this work in a scholarly journal?
