"The Tryst," and "The Tryst II," painted by an anonymous painter

Brief thoughts for these paintings ๐Ÿ‘‡
Given that the author is unknown, the motivations behind these paintings is a bit of a mystery. But it seems to be based on the struggles of a real couple who clearly were having a relationship that wasn't completely acceptable for some reason. The definition for "Tryst" means "a private romantic rendezvous between lovers". Regardless of why their relationship must be kept secret, I just love the fact that they will stop at nothing to see each other. One precariously stands on top of her trustworthy servant just to reach her lover's face, while the lover had to ride in on a huge camel just to reach her window to see her! The lengths that they are going to see each other is quite romantic and makes me want to root for their love story :)

What are your thoughts on these paintings? Isn't painting a story from two perspectives a cool idea? I wish there were more examples of this style of art and story telling.

Thanks for watching and learning about these beautiful painting me! โค

Most loyal friends? What? Youโ€™re spreading misinformation about pieces you donโ€™t know about. Those are their slaves. It puts the piece in a completely different context than the narrative youโ€™re pushing.

great pictures of a time long gone. i do agree on the comments about the word 'friend' not being well chosen. we also should not judge people from those long gone times with our current ethic mindset......

also.......their slaves, and this is not being mean, the arab slave trade was brutal and was mostly done via trans saharan caravans though also by sea (ethiopians mostly)

they also had pretty race based roles, male black slaves were usually cheapest and handed the worst hand (mines and fields mostly) they were generally castrated as well

female black slaves were mostly nursemaids,
white male slaves were next on the prestige ladder and these were house servants or even bodyguards but would also be castrated in most cases (i assume)
female white slaves were most expensive and were further divided in turkic white and most expensive of all european white

Hm... Regardless of the status of those people, the only one sacrificing anything is the black girl. And by sacrifice I mean her spine would be killing her for days! My back hurts just by looking at this.

I wonder what happened to the girl when they eventually were found out.

Iโ€™m low-key questioning yโ€™all for seeing two black characters in a painting and assuming โ€œslaves.โ€
