My husband and I plan to sell our suburban home and move somewhere more rural, I told him if we don't find a place that already has sugar maples I want to plant some. I know it would be many years before we could tap them, but hopefully if we're still alive we can enjoy π great video

My grandfather was one of the last surviving residents of what became the Quabbin. I don't recall off the top of my head what town he lived in, but I know his family harvested ice off the swift river to sell for ice boxes (delivered by horse and wagon, stored in a barn covered with sawdust to slow melting) as well as had a fuel oil delivery service. He was displaced when he was 18. There was a group of former residents that would meet periodically for reunions, which he would attend. As I understand it, the family's property is still reachable as it is above the water line.
