I just wrap a piece of cloth or rubber or something around it and just use pliers. This $30 overpriced tool would take up too much space in my tool bag/box

It's a strap-wrench. I cringe when I see plumbers using channel locks or similar to loosen or tighten chrome parts!!!!!

That's nice for cheap. The expensive but lasts forever route would be a chrome wrench specifically made for chrome nuts

Mans gonna wear the strap out in the next 5 jobs torquin on the knurled bit there. they make soft jaw pliers for a reason.
