My Dad was a session bassist in the 70s & 80s. He toured with bands that were on the OG 80s MTV. He taught bass guitar to many students. This bass solo kept him up at night and drove him (not literally) crazy trying to learn it. The illusive bass line that seemed ridiculous to play in real time. Until he learned it was reversed. No joke, he plays jazz piano now…

I could hear that part of the bass playing was backwards, but i didnt know that only half of the solo was, and that it was the same as the first half

I've listened to this song multiple times but I heard it on the radio earlier today and thought "wait a minute, that solo sounds reversed". Then this short comes up confirming that. Weird.

All bass players who played it should know it.

I didn’t know, I’m not a bass player.

From what I understand Kumalo tried in vain to find pedal hardware to replicate the effect at the time, and eventually learned to play the near impossible lick for live performances.

Absolutely no idea, but can totally hear it when expecting it

No doubt so that one day someone will make a video about it.

Played by Bathiki Kumalo .
Who later learned to play the backwards part for live shows .

I knew that. I could tell by the sound. The attack is at the ends of the notes rather than at the beginning.

I’m currently working on a piece of music and I did the same thing, if you do it right it makes your song a tad bit longer and sounds more professional in a weird way.

Way too subtle for me to pick up on! I take it you read about it since you also know the reason for it.
