Hell yeah brother! Who cares if it's pine instead of cedar? What he doesn't know can't hurt him it's a win/win! He got his project completed and you got extra profit! Love to see it 🔥

As long as you told him it wasn’t cedar the main reason people want cedar on the exterior is because it has natural protection against bugs and moisture so if you just switched it out without telling him you will definitely get a lawsuit in a year once it starts to mold

Cedar is 10 times the product of pine as well as a diffrent color. 5 times the cost but will weather 100 times better than pine. Also your lucky he didnt want to stain it because the oils from your fingers would show everywhere. 6 grand to much for pine soffit

It's basically out of the weather so pine should last a plenty long time. Looks nice.

If he doesn't seal it, he's going to love the termites, especially because it's pine. Cedar has oil that deters them.

If you really cared about your customer you would have used MDF, it's known for how it handles water and can act as a rain barrel too so saving on the water bill.

Solid play on the material swap, my friend.

Customer may have stated no finish, but you always know better than them.

You're supposed to be the professional.

After you pocket the cedar to pine delta, sell him on the no paint, no stain, no seal, SUPER RUSTIC, Shou Sugi Ban treatment.

Charge an additional $3k for 1 hour of burning and brushing those pine boards and completely hide your wood swap from his more knowledgeable father-in-law discovering what you did.

Tell him the murdered-out look of his tiny will look less...feminine.

Looks great . Should have sealed it though . Both sides before install . I know time is money , buts going to look nasty is three years .

You’re going to want some vents sir. That thing will cook the deck. Maybe some nice wood lover vents with screen on the back side, stain to match. Please advise the home owner he needs vents. Function and longevity over aesthetic

I think you should have used the wood that your paying client asked you to use instead of changing your mind for your own benefit. It shows that you don't care about your customer. You only care about yourself, regardless of how good the work looks. You short changed your client for your personal benefit against the wishes. Not cool, man.

Without knowing your material costs it tough to determine... but based just on the pictures (and how little you paid your helpers) I'd say you did very well for a day or two of work.
Pine was a poor choice, not sealing it was not a good idea... and not putting in vents was a no-no.
