Something to note, The Smithsonian Institute had their own airplane design that they patented before the Wright Brothers, but it's unknown if it ever actually successfully flew.

The Smithsonian claim it did, so that their patent would supersede any claims the Wright brothers made, because the Smithsonian didn't want ANYONE to hold a patent on the concept of Powered Heavier Than Air Flight

I went to 23andMe and discovered that Oville and Wilbur Wright were my great-great-great grandfather's second cousins (through marrage), so that was pretty neat.

Fun fact: an albanian guy created a "plane" from the drawing of Leonardo da vinci but no one used his invention and no one knew about it. He did this in 1899.

They used a rail not an engine that means that it couldn't fly long ranges but the 14-bis used an egine wich don't need an external force only fuel. I still on school so i can have made some mistakes.
