I take my oil change to my nearest Mazda dealer and I was going to do my oil change for the first time now. I have the same hex key as the one you're using 8 mm to take out the drain plug but I can't because I know the mechanic at the dealer overtighted that I can't even loosen with the key.

"Not doing anything to the seal" on the oil filter probably explains why you have such a hard time getting it off.
