I just made one of these a few days ago. The bigger the wood is you ride against, the more the motor will get in the way. You have to raise the blade depth in order to raise the motor in order to clear the board.

And also, since you are riding on wood on top of wood you are cutting, you have to make sure the blade is set deep enough to clear 'both pieces'. So its a catch22.

I am in no way hating or tro11ing here. This is not criticism or mocking. Its things to consider when making one.

As someone who's made these do not use 3/4 wood, 1/4 inch is sufficient. Some have said just use a straight edge as a guide..True but .making one of these is waaaayyy faster.

You could even add the non skid strips on the bottom

2 inch + the width of the blade. If you want 2" rather approximately 1 7/8"

Good thinking. I use festool at work which is awesome. I made my own bout a yr ago...almost to the T, just plywood cause its what I had laying around also I added a slot for handle/storage. I dont have a lot of space so buying a dedicated saw right just isnt necessary.

Careful with the 5" wide piece my saw plate is around 5.125" wide, didn't work for my saw other than using the shorter part of the plate, which is okay bit I'd rather use the wide part

That 2 inch piece would have to be 2 and a bit inches to accommodate that blade.....

Step one: use a flat piece of plywood
Step 1.5: impossible
Step two: buy a track saw

On your line on on your tracks off isn't it a 16th off because of the turf on the blade so it would be just 16th under 2 inches

Hey brother how can you use this same method if you had to under cut a door? If you lower your skill saw all the way down it will bind and now allow full depth of cut

That sure looks like you made the track out of MDF and not plywood. You used it to cut plywood.

I'd want this because I don't have a way to make high quality straight rips, but making this requires making a high quality straight rip lol

couldnt you just mark your line on the plywood or material and strap on a long 2x4 with clamps as a guide?
