本校為因應國家建設與經濟發展之需要，於1986年創設「交通管理學系」，以培養公路、鐵路、海洋、航空及都市運輸各方面之交通專業科技、管理人才。本系教師本於術德兼修的教育理念，透過質量並重的教學內涵，培育學生積極進取、自信自重的自我發展能力。並在理論與實務整合之教學原則下，使學生具備交通運輸之專業知識及經營管理技術，成為政府交通運輸部門與民間事業單位之主要規劃、工程、營運管理幹部。此外，為培養運輸學界與實務界具備獨立研究與決策能力之高級人才，本系於1995年設立「運輸科學碩士班」；為使本系發展定位更明確，並於1999年更名為「運輸管理學系」，為全國唯一位於大臺北都會區的交通運輸科系，擁有豐富的產學合作資源！
