Headers with a nicely built catless system would sound beautiful! These DOHC 32 valve V8's just have a much "nastier" growl under acceleration once fitted with a nice set of headers and high flow exhaust system. I don't own the 5.0 Coyote but do have a similarly built engine with the huge valvetrain in comparison to a pushrod 2V set of heads. My old 2008 Toyota Tundra 5.7 V8 with TRD Supercharger is just "different" from the more common pushrod, cam in block style. Before I added JBA longtube headers, JBA mid-pipes, catless and all 304 stainless steel, mandrel bent piping with an external X-pipe and "true duals" or with each engine bank having it's own system that doesn't mix with the other bank until the X-pipe, after the X-pipe each bank gets its own single chamber oval shaped, small magnaflow muffler (they're installed side by side and look great) and turned down before the rear axle. That truck has possibly the best sounding V8 exhaust with the exception of some very high end, supercars in my personal opinion. It was after adding a custom exhaust with quality headers did it that it was noticeably better sounding than my previous system that still utilized the factory exhaust manifolds. Like night and day different, no raspy high RPM "screaming" or just having a loud muffler and high flow cats, 2.5" piping. Plus with the 5.7 V8 (also a DOHC 32 valve *with 4 valves per cylinderand 4 total cams located in the heads, two cams per head. It has the variable valve timing and most of the same features found on the Coyote.) If this new 460bhp 5.0 Coyote V8 in the nice, new beautiful Mustang is only showing us what it's going to sound like with a factory exhaust system then I'm impressed! This car sounds great for a bone stock car, in addition these 460hp V8's are rated 10hp lower than they should! For emissions purposes I'm told Ford had to make a few very minor adjustments which led to seeing the already powerful Coyote lose 10 horses. I think a full exhaust, maybe a Whipple or Procharger bolted on with a "man pedal" would be too much fun to drive! With some headers and a little bit or work to change the factory exhaust out for something that breathes, maybe a good tune or something would boost those base horsepower numbers from 460 at the crankshaft to over 500bhp without flinching. You can tell it's going to sound as good or better than any of the big 3's V8 cars with similar components. No doubt
