It seems simple but in actuality this is a high level skill.

“Thicker lines attract more visual attention,” he says as he presents a drawing of a thicc woman.

an artist friend of mine once gave me a tip he called the "T-rule." anywhere where lines connect in the (approximate) shape of a T, you'll in most cases want to stress the area where they meet with the thickest line weight and fade it to a thinner line weight towards the 3 ends. you can see an example of this in this video, in the spider gwen drawing where her torso connects to her outstretched left arm!

Some people also use thicker lines for heavier objects, and thinners for lighter objects.
IT'S SO FREAKING HARD TO LEARN THO !

I usually use line weight for lighting. When light hits something greatly I use thinner lines. When it’s darker I use heavier lines.

It's also much lighter overall, making it ideal for shading. This is normally something you learn naturally with a pencil then have to re-learn when you start inking on paper. Same for digital art, except you can make a pen act like a pencil :o

Oh my goodness, this is exactly what I needed to figure out! I had no idea about the depth and details and.... now I know. Time to practice!

also use thicker lines where shadows would fall, if you dont want to busy up your sketch with a lot of shadow space

I struggle with line weight so much. But this explains it in a way that I can know how to use it. Thanks.

First time I heard this actually explained in an understandable way with a structured theory behind it. Thanks for the great trip

Thank you so much, I started my drawing journey 4 days ago, I felt I was going too fast. I can now easily draw simple posture using my rough sketch but I hit the wall 3 days ago, now I know what to practice to completely translate my rough sketch.

I actually never thought about this.. it was more of an automatic thing for me ever since I used a pencil.. but since I switched digitally 3yrs ago I'm staring to utilize alot of interesting unique tools I haven't used yet..

This is interesting and helpful advice because I never really thought about that when I draw but it makes sense now

Every line has weight, it’s the variation of weight that emphasises form :)
