A College Dropout Built an ₹8,000 Crore Company

Born on November 16, 1993, in Bisam Cuttack, Odisha, Ritesh Agarwal had humble beginnings. During his student years, his frequent travels helped him realize the challenges people face in finding affordable and reliable hotels.
Motivated to solve this problem, Ritesh launched a startup called "Oravel Stays" in 2011, focusing on the hospitality business. Unfortunately, the venture failed, leaving him with only ₹30 in his bank account.
Despite the setback, Ritesh refused to give up. He kept searching for investors and, in 2013, received ₹75 lakh from the prestigious Thiel Fellowship. This funding marked a turning point.
With renewed determination, Ritesh rebranded "Oravel Stays" as "OYO Rooms." The new venture transformed his life. Today, OYO operates in over 80 countries with more than 43,000 hotels in its portfolio.
Ritesh’s incredible journey earned him a spot on Forbes Asia’s 30 Under 30 list. He also made an appearance on the popular TV show Shark Tank India as the youngest shark.
