I have severe ADHD and methylphenidate only hrlps me to be calmer and handle my emotions better. I don't have noticable better focus or executive function capabilities.

Hey Dr Mike, thanks for sharing about this stuff. Different condition but my sister has strong, strong psychosis from her schizophrenia. It was a long 8 year process to find meds that ACTUALLY help her and get her stable. It is truly grueling going through struggles with even finding the right medication.

I get focused on doing everything but studying. It enables procrastination.

I had to go through several different meds before I found the right one for me. I was not medicated until adulthood and the pure hell that elementary, middle, and the first two years of high school were for me also served as behavioral bootcamp where I learned different coping techniques to allow myself to function as a human. All my books, notebooks, and folders were color coded and I had labeled spots to put everything I used daily for school and sports. I had to build the world around me so I could function. This skill and meds help me function as an adult now but if you don't learn coping techniques, meds may not help or could even backfire and amp up the chaos.

Needing something extra to be able to access your own mind is a wild ride. First you have to figure out you might be ADHD. Then you have to find a good doctor, find the right med, and find the right dose. If that med stops helping, it's a tremendous obstacle to overcome. Again! 😬 I had to build a whole external support system for myself, 9 years before my diagnosis. I wish the Pills & Skills treatment option was offered more often. I'll take any help I can get.

I was prescribed Adderall from third grade to graduating high school I had no idea what I was taking. I just took it. The psychosis hit me hard because I had to develop my world structure on how I thought I was (being on Adderall) versus who I was actually (cutting Adderall) you would assume I would know, but I was pretty dumb

I know I'm stupiderer than Mr. Dr. Mike, but I do this with caffeine and anything else I take for energy so I thought I'd ask. Why not cycle off completely for a while, then try to force function without it (maybe on like a weekend or a slightly easier stretch) then cycle on as rarely as possible with as little as possible from then on with. Then when you REALLY need it take a larger dose and it will be more effective. (?) This works for me, I use caffeine pretty much only on leg day because otherwise I CANNOT focus enough to do squats AT ALL. I mean like I literally can't hit legs to failure if I don't have near infinite caffeine with perfect sensitivity inside me.

Im just going to be honest here, as someone who used to suffer from an Adderall addiction, none of the shit that he has described happens unless you are abusing it.

Where is the rest of the video? Great content!! Awesome content. But did Dr Mike stop taking the meds completely? Get another med? Learn a skill? What did he do as he realized the meds were not working? Obviously he did something.
