HRs typically don’t generate any money to any company.
Engineers build products. Sales people sell the product and marketing people increase your brand presence, value, thus contributing to sales etc. So you can see how they generate revenue and bring in money.
But with HRs, it’s hard to correlate them to revenue generation in most companies. Moreover, when companies are going through a rough patch, they stop hiring. Which means the entire talent acquisition HR team is simply sitting on their hands. So it gets hit hard during a recession.
