I think if you had two rows of billots, with you walking down the middle with an axe in each hand chopping as you go, would be extremely safe, and with the equal distance rotational harmonic balance of the axes, the coefficient of exertion to work done, one would have to postulate, that the efficiency would be increased. You had to concentrate a bit more on that thin one, I think it would be a bit safer missing it at a lower height always having a block below, especially after fatigue starts to set in.
