I define your soft era as being a time where you are soft with yourself. For some that looks like being around more people and for some that means spending more time alone. Soft era is totally personal to you. If you ask me, she’s giving a very “soft” vibe with this beautiful display of vulnerability.

Soft life really seems like a concept more than a reality for a lot of us unfortunately. The world doesn’t help aid in the softness that should naturally be apart of who we are as women. Everything is a fight… a fight to be seen, heard, validated or simply to matter. We have to fight for our very existence at times. It’s sad. I feel like the main way to truly attain this lifestyle is to simply not care about the things in life that may have driven you through out your life. At some point you gotta stop that fight and be ok with not trying to prove anything but just existing. We have been forced into this corner of having to be in our masculine more than anything. We have turned that adaptation tactic into a lifestyle and now it’s hard to go back to our nature. Hate that for us. We all deserve peace, calm, rest and joy. We can’t stop fighting for that!

It’s ok if you don’t feel like you can now. My aunt just entered her “soft” era at 54! After a lifetime of trauma from abandonment (she, my mom, and their younger brother are all adopted), sa, abusive relationships, and chronic illness, she has reconnected to a group of friends who truly love and accept her who she can lean on, she lives in a place she loves, but in the last few years she has also learned to treat herself gently, accept and love herself.

I don't think y'all really understand what being "SOFT" and being "HARD" really means! Taking care of yourself as an adult and creating boundaries is literally a pinnacle of feminine energy! Not putting pinkies up and wearing dresses. Most blk women don't even realize they are already feminine in nature (like the woman in the video) but everyone keeps telling them they're masculine because they are constantly picking up the slack of others. That doesn't make you hard though, it just means you need to start putting your needs FIRST and not last. At your job, at home, with your kids, in your relationship, with your parents and family! Just choose yourself more and it won't seem to be so hard all the time. We are not "HARD" and we don't need to be "SOFT". We just simply need to do whatever brings us joy and NOTHING less! Love y'all
