There are some amazing people and organizations out there trying to take action to protect our biodiversity, to make our forests resilient in a changing climate, to provide wildlife habitat, to produce local renewable resources and more — one thing that I really struggle with is folks who are categorically anti-forest management, such as these “proforestation” organizations. In Vermont, we’ve seen our conservation communities come together to support plans for the management of State and Federal lands — the Worcester Range and the Green Mountain National Forest — but one of the frustrating things has been seeing how the people and the organizations that are protesting and litigating over these projects (instead of accepting that if every conservation organization supports these projects that they must be a good thing) then start attacking those conservation organizations. It can’t be this way — we need to have the humility to change, to be wrong, to accept that what is easy to accept isn’t always what’s right, and that we need to make tough choices to protect our ecosystems and ourselves. #nuance #management #action #nature #biodiversity #climatechange #conservation #nimby #humility #short

It’s funny I watch these Stargate episodes where they go to other worlds in the woods forest. Most of the time are very young.

WTF is proforestation? I read the description and I still don't get it. Are they wanting to leave the forest be entirely? Cause that's how you get in the trouble of California rn. And they Do manage the forests as best as they can, but the forests are vast enough that there's really just no way to manage all of it.

Can there be projects that are the correct choice ecologically? Sure. But to swallow that they’re ALL good because all conservation organizations support it is disappointing.

It took me 40 years to develop credulity to not ignore the billions made by logging, and that with a few exceptions, those same “conservation organizations” are almost always either publicly funded (and subject to political whims), funded by billionaires or by the industry itself.

It’s in their material interest, regardless of funding, even if they didn’t directly endorse RICO-level price fixing, to continue supporting the logging of the monoculture forests, which they approved decades ago as regulators, but now its gotta go because of the danger those monoculture forests now pose.

I bet if they were smart they’re even logging the very forests we dumb liberals donated to non-profits to plant 40 years ago. Double profit bro.
