Most difficult major is Chemical Engineering.

I did Electrical Engineering more than a decade ago.
I still occasionally have nightmares about failing courses and having to repeat an entire year or worse dropping out. It was brutal and lots of work and stress.
Definitely worth it though because I was able to graduate and able to easily get a job and pay off my student loans.

I believe that Philosophy is very lucky to be in the middle tier. It could easily be considered one of the hardest subjects, if it wasn't for the fact that learning philosophy is in itself the only reward. There is no real way of making money off of it like other studies. This means that both the students and teachers come frome a place of pure passion and desire to understand, which makes it much more doable.
