I learned a bit of Turkish over high school down here in Texas. I was in the Houston galleria and a Turkish guy selling cologne stopped me to get me to buy. But his English was broken. So I immediately switched to Turkish. The man’s face lit up with excitement, and he exclaimed that me, a white guy taking time to learn Turkish means a lot to him. He gave me 2 bottles free. I ended up buying him lunch. Best experience in public I’ve ever had.
