I remember where & with whom I was when we first heard Bill Withers sing this. Though my love passed away in 1999, it still brings back those memories of hearing Ain't No Sunshine. Now that he's gone, it takes on new meaning. We had 32 years of love & happiness.♡

I knew Bill very well! We both worked for McDonald Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach back in 1969. He was working on the electric crew that ran the master power harness from the APU (auxiliary power unit) to the outlets that delivered power to the air conditioning ducts. I installed the toilets and sinks. Bill worked at various clubs on the weekends, singing and playing his Marten guitar. I actually borrowed $20 from him to buy gas so I could get home. Years later I heard a song on KTLA and thought That guy sounds a lot like Bill! IT WAS! “Ain’t no sunshine “ 1971. I went to see his concert at the Wiltern Theatre (On the corner of Western and Wiltshire) I wasn’t able to talk to him because of the security guards. Later I sent a telegram to him at the Greek theater and he called me at home the next day! I asked him if he remembered me from work, he said “Man! I don’t have that amnesia!” He was always focused on making it in the music industry AND HE BECAME A BIG STAR!

My mom loved Bill Withers, especially this song. A year she passed, several family members gathered to connect and celebrate her life. We were talking in one room, and someone asked if we thought she could hear us in heaven. About 5 minutes later, the radio either came on or the volume blasted. Nobody was in the room with the radio, so we never knew if the radio was previously on. The song that came on❤❤❤ was this song. 27 people sat in silence, and we could all feel her. He sang this from his soul. I will always love his version of the song.❤
