I got the point, and I absolutely agree with you. But I want to correct your video. I’ve check on gmaps, distance on the first line is about 8.400km, and the second line is about 6300km

The first statement about the lines is completely not true, the top one is about 6,200 miles (10,000km) while the bottom line (the allegedly longer one) is only 3,500 miles (5,700km)

That’s why the most accurate map is the globe itself

It's 2024. Why haven't we released a flat map that keeps the shapes AND sizes of land masses accurate?

Width of Eurasia = 9000 miles (14,500 km)
Width of Africa = 4600 miles (7400 km)
So, you're wrong ❌

The Mercator projection dates from the Age of Exploration. By now, people should be aware that it is not the most accurate representation of Earth, but it was the best they had at the time. Besides, it is easy to produce for general purpose maps.

There have been attempts to use different projection algorithm and instead of using a Rectangular grid, used a romboid shape. But because most maps were used to navigate ships from A to B the "chesstable" shape with straight angle intersecting latitude and longitude stuck
