Slovenia during the Bronze Age - History of Europe #shorts

Early bronze age findings in the present-day Slovenia are extremely scarce, but not nonexistent, and were mostly recovered from water spots. Most of these are theorized to have been intentionally dumped as a votive offering or a part of a religious ritual.

This period could be marked as a stagnation of this land, especially when compared to nearby rich cultures of central Europe, which sped towards change and advancement. Modest remains of pile dwellings and lowland villages were main discoveries of the sparse early Bronze age.

Closer to the Adriatic coast, hillforts called Kastelirs (Castellieri) were built as a response to the new weapons and battle tactics in the middle bronze age. The hillforts would continue standing even into the iron age.

No cemeteries were found in the early Bronze age, while in the middle period burial under tumuli were common, as the practice spread throughout central Europe. Deposition of bodies in caves also continued and it's believed that this is the cause of the lack of cemeteries during this time, as burials in caves rarely survive and are difficult to document.

During the late bronze age, an influx of people and an increased number of settlements has been recorded with the arrival of the Urnfield culture.

While many bronze artifacts were unique before, late bronze age presents massive productions of weapons and ornaments made from molds. Trade also came to life, stretching from the Baltic sea in the north, to Cyprus and the east Mediterranean.
