The strange thing about this discussion regarding 'abstract art' is that abstract art is nothing new, it has always existed, and it's called decorative art. I think what was contentious was the fact that abstract art ended the hundreds of years of putting human beings in representational art, and it was seen as an attack on the basic human need for story telling and myth making. In the end story telling prevails but in the new medium of cinema and digital technologies.
