1. Set up a bench at about 30-degrees, with your feet underneath you to keep your body stable throughout the exercise. Let your arms hang naturally in front of your body with the dumbbells securely in your hands. Ensure that your head remains in a neutral position.
2. Inhale to engage your core and exhale as you use your rear deltoids and upper back muscles to drive the dumbbells out to the sides. Starting slowly, then accelerating as you move up to the top of the position. Step when your arms are roughly parallel to the floor. To add an extra challenge, hold for 1 second.
3. Keeping tension in your shoulders, breathe in to lower your arms with control, resisting the load. Pause for 1 second in this bottom position to help reduce momentum going into the next rep and to reset your breathing.
4. Repeat #2 & #3.
