I spent New Year's Eve listening to drunks talking about the last time they were drunk. Their whole life revolved around how much they drank and how much they were gonna drink. I actually went to bed at 11 because I couldn't be arsed pretending to have a good time anymore.

Yep, so true. So, so many people drink not because they enjoy it, but just because "it's what you do". Peer pressure/conformity is a helluva drug

Omgosh so true. That’s why when you stop drinking they all ghost you! They aren’t real friends. And drunk people are really, really boring to anyone not drinking! ❤

Absolutely true I had a group of friends when I used to drink but now when I have stopped I am Alone & I have understood that at this point of my life finding true friendship is impossible.

Yup, that was me in my 20s. I had a half dozen drinking buddies. In my 30s I stopped drinking and all my friends disappeared.

I gave up drinking when I was 17, now over 40 years later I consider it to be the best decision I ever made.

Pretty much the reason that I no longer drink, don’t get me wrong I will have a drink on occasion but most all my old friends were heavy drinkers and I always felt out of place. Usually just hung out and drove there drunk asses around

9+ months abstaining from alcohol with my husband. Hardest, but best decision made.

Spent wayyyyy too much time in this mode. Cost me my 20’s and 30’s and half my 40’s. Childhood trauma/PTSD is a hell of a drug.

well... in my 20's I was studying and had a ton of drinking buddies. But these were also my friends. In drunk state we had a zillion great moments. But now we are 40's and we take it chill. We know we can't/shouldn't do that. I wouldn't have changed a thing.

Not drinking is not the same as not getting drunk, and not the same as not getting wasted either.

I learned very early that everyone’s drinking stories are essentially the same.

I don't drink and have always found boozy work functions quite unpleasant. One of my wok colleagues suffered a major medical episode and was told by his doctors to stay off alcohol for a year. Af the next boozy work function when we were both sober, he asked me "did I always sound as stupid as they do right now?".

I was once at a bar getting my husband and my self a drink….a drink of juice and a bottle water when the guy next to me says “why don’t you get a drink” l politely pointed out that l had got a drink, but he said “no you haven’t” so after l pointed out that a juice and a bottle of water was a drink, he said “ l mean a proper drink” so l asked him what he meant by a proper drink, he said “ a drink for grown ups not ones for children “ so l,asked did he mean on with alcohol in ? He said yes. So l told him l was happy with my choice. Then he said “ how can you enjoy yourself without an adult drink with alcohol, like all adults do “ so l pointed out that not all, adults drink alcohol and are also happy to have none alcoholic drinks and if he feels he cannot enjoy life and enjoy himself without alcohol then he has a serious problem with alcohol and he should see his doctor as soon as possible …l then turned and walked away with my nice and water…,!!!!!!!

Furthermore extending this knowledge I would suggest people be diligent and contentious of what is said around your peers & what is done around your peers. If it’s primarily based around the past experiences it’s safe to say you’ve outgrown them. Being present is a great way to be authentic & contentious one love ♾️💙

I go out with my friends all the time and not have anything to drink. After awhile they got used to it and its just like normal. However, I do like to duck out a bit early in the evening before everyone gets way too loud and very touchy-feely lol.
