America can make racing cars that can beat any country including Italy, but we're so spoiled in America all energy went into luxury and chilling out. We held the record for drag cars, so we cared more about drag cars and luxury than Lemans, but Ford had to just show the world if we want to, we can win anything, any race!

From my understanding shelby and team didn't want the 427 . It was to big and heavy . It changed the hole car. They were very happy with the 289 .
I think you need to look up your history. I pretty sure Carol ahelby said it himself before he passed.

Yea ole Henry Ford wanted to beat ole Enzo Ferrari soo bad that Ford spent 200 million on the GT 40 project in 1965. That was a shitload of money in 1965. Ford almost went under because of it.
