Since you grow butternut squash on your string trellis, you should try cantaloupe as well. A lot of growers are using trellis to grow melons and seem to have really good luck.

Question. I've been trying to learn cover crops for building soil.I just planted buckwheat . Asking was buckwheat a good pick for my melon patch? I hope so I planted some yesterday afternoon.
.. I'm 6a Mid Ohio and just picked my last 3 days ago.
We had our 3Th dryest summer since 1878 so our last cantaloupe had a few died but for several weeks we have enjoyed " vine ripped"; and definitely will raise more again God permitting.

Idk if im not putting enough nitrogen or potassium in soil but this my 3rd year trying. I got 3 this year and theyre all baseball/softball size nowhere near store size do you companion plant nitrogen fixers? Any tips? Appreciate it in advance
