And the Bible says that the Ark of Covenent is made also from wood so most probably is rotten like the ark of Noah from a long time.The ark of Noah got wet from the flood so rotten.The chances of existing of the ark of covenent are like almost nul, but I incline towards nul.

He should said why they died. Only the chosen Holy Priest was allowed to touch it. When the priest went in, he went in with an rope around him so if he wasn't Holy and died they pulled him out with the rope. You just can't play around with God. You had to be pure and chosen. There is God's rules for entering his presence.
