People often asked how I got my dog and rabbit to get along. It wasn't easy. It began with the rabbit free and the dog leashed and eventually progressed to them being free together. Eventually, they'd nap together and I knew they were good (with supervision of course). It took weeks, but my dog did great. :)

I live in regional Western Australia and we have a lot of bush land that backs up onto, and is even in the middle of, most of our suburbs.
We get a lot of wildlife that just wanders into our yards and I even helped an echidna cross the road safely where the dog park we do our training with the kennel club is.
Because of this I’ve trained both my SD and my pet dog to not chase them, it’s more difficult for my little guy because he’s a Jack Russell/ridgeback mix, so now they keep a safe distance and let me know something’s there.
A couple of days ago a little kingfisher flew straight into my window and hit really hard, I was looking for whatever made the noise when the dogs found the little guy on the ground, little dog alert barked at it while the big boy just stared at it and looked back to me (this is my service dog and he’s trained to react silently like this and look for reassurance).
I picked the bird up and he just needed a quiet rest before being released.
Some would say I’m lucky my dogs reacted the way they did but those people don’t see the work the three of us put into these behaviours. ❤

Denver did so well!! What a great choice ❤
Gravy has been distracted mainly by things that don't "belong" in places he's frequented. Like one time we took a walk to a park we visited multiple times a week. He had seen kids and bikes there before. But seeing an abandoned tricycle with no humans around was so distracting for him 😂 it was an interesting training opportunity
