I wanted meal plans to work SO bad.

I loved the idea of them.
I craved the certainty of them…

But try as I might, they never fit with our unconventional life.

A set-in-stone structure doesn’t work with the many moving pieces of our weeks.

Plus, typical plans called for constant grocery runs (my least favorite thing) and out of season ingredients that never jived with what I had out in the garden or in my freezers.

But my inability to stick with a normal meal plan ended up being a gift.

Little did I know it would be the catalyst that taught me how to really cook.

Over the years, I’ve learned to cook by feel, rather than formula— just like our great-grandmothers would have. It’s been one of the most empowering shifts I’ve ever had in the kitchen.

I know many of you are in my same boat— you want to put wholesome food on the table, but conventional plans just don’t work for you.

I’m working on something special to help with this. It’s not ready yet, but if you’re craving meal frameworks that flow with your unique life, you’re gonna love it.

I did too! So much less stress to do farm to table. I just see what i have today or what needs used, and that becomes dinner 😄

I don’t do well with meal planning or scheduling anything, basically. I do much better if I go with what I feel like doing, whether it’s cooking or cleaning or reading or pretty much anything. I try to keep track of what food we have that needs to be used, and have ideas for it, but stay flexible from there.

My sister doesn’t plan meals and ends up going to the store daily. I make a weekly menu but often switch it around or eat leftovers. I rarely have to go shopping for something I don’t have because of that planning. It takes the stress off of me when I know what I’m cooking.

Those buns look fantastic. Do you have a recipe for these? Don't meal plan either.😊

I don't plan my meals perfectly. There are days when I am figuring it out at the last minute. When I do plan in advance, I am happy and feel less stressed.

It’s fed worth finding what works best for you and your family.
I used to not meal plan, but I have adhd and that worked out VERY poorly for me. I was always stressed and never knew what to make because to many options looks the same as no options to me. Meal planning is hard up front for me for that reason, but once I have the plan down it makes my entire week not only easier, but also waaaay less expensive.

Meal planning is best for people who are hardly ever home but don't have the finances to eat out every day. Their breakfast is ready soon after waking. Lunch is easily pulled out or is quick to heat up. Dinner is either easy to assemble with prepping or just heated.

Not meal prepping demands a high level of creativity and being aware of all the food stocked in the house. You need to memorize recipes or have recipes saved or bookmarked. There are so many easy, quick, natural, and healthy meals out there. Not every person has the personality to cook without prepping. Some of us also thrive on the chaos or randomness. It just works, lol. 🤷‍♀
