You need to make the distinction between Offensive grenades and Defensive grenades. The British Mills 36 and American Pineapple, are Defensive. You throw and get behind cover , they go bang and every one in 20 meters or so gets a bit. The German is an Offensive grenade, you throw , it is blast more than fragments, disorientates the enemy and you can charge through.
