Massively agree with every point.
When I ran a superhero campaign, their Guy in the Chair that was a regular major NPC was killed suddenly and for reasons they never got to find out. Their team actually came to blows over what to do and how to handle things, leading to an in-universe team break-up, with the last arc we got to play being a combo of "For the Man Who Has Everything", a superhero group therapy session, and a business management sim (he was the direct assistant & sidekick to the eccentric billionaire PC). His death was so important to them that I would get asked about what my plans were for several years after we had to abandon that campaign, even. Everyone was so invested because he was their friend, their confidant, the Team Dad, and the wound was felt for the rest of the campaign

Excellent advice!
One of the best Champions games I've played in involved the aftermath of a beloved NPC's death. He was a cop who was killed during a superhero fight. After the funeral, his partner got framed for a nonexistent affair with him, and the PC superheroes had to figure out what had happened. Faced with a crisis they could not punch in the face, the heroes wound up tracing the falsified images and evidence to a fellow officer who - after the hero cop's death - staged his partner's disgrace in order to isolate her, break her down, and leave her vulnerable so he could sweep in, "find the culprits" (a pack of street thugs who DID have a grudge against her but were innocent of the frame-job), and become her new hero. In the end, the PC heroes didn't have to bring the guy down; the enraged officer did it for them after the PCs had exposed his plan. Damn good roleplaying all around, and a major change from the usual city-wrecking slugfests.

Even better, the seemingly meaningless death of an NPC triggers an unexpected quest: sure you just got back from fighting the monster that killed him, but now it turns out that the supply routes the shopkeeper was using was actually a black market or he was running a smuggling ring and now it’s been blown wide open, plus there’s a power vacuum in town once the mayor was found to be complicit

Excellent points.
I’d like to add that your location also influences this. A single fisherman dying for a small town can be a huge impact, but a single fisherman dying in a city may not mean much on the surface.
But let’s say the party is able to see the community of this fisherman, maybe they see his fellows are holding a vigil or a service, maybe they see everyone on the docks came to work with a black bandana, those sort of things.
Impacts vary based on community, and sometimes the impacts are manifested more out of community solidarity than material necessity.

My party failed to protect the one fisherman in the village. The next campaign, prices were rising as the merchants desperately tried to raise enough coin to leave. Many previous NPCs were absent, having either left town or succumbed to starvation.
The next campaign, the village is now a ghost town with every house now abandoned.
My party's reaction: "Sweet, free real estate."
Our DM: "Wait, what?"
Me: "Squatter's Rights. We'll just pay the local lord the appropriate property taxes and be fine."
DM: (facepalm)

Respectfully I was not paying attn because I was distracted by how cute you are. I've never played DnD and have no idea what you're talking about. I ride a cbr 1000 and I love Star Wars, Football, GOT (cosplay) and COD. Sooo, kinda nerdy but kind cool??? Right??? Idk, let's link maybe you could teach me to play. 😂😂
