8BitDo Ultimate Controller for Xbox is a 55 euro controller which comes with hall effect sticks and triggers. The wired version is just 35 euros. They also have the Ultimate 2c, which are generic xinput controllers that also have hall effect triggers and sticks. The wired version costs 20 and wired costs 30. It's not about price, it's because people don't know or consider these competitors.

I still own a Dualshock 4 V2, from like 2014
that i bought with a cool skin,
it still works, recently with a custom pcb, i even replaced the micro-usb for a USB-C connection, never had issues, and now Valve is making Playstation controllers, even more compatible than they were before. This is great

What’s even more wild is that the Elite Series 2 controllers(the ones that cost $180 or more than 3x the amount of a regular Xbox controller) develop stick drift in the same amount of time. You read that correctly. Xbox uses potentiometers in their elite line of controllers as well. They really are trying to suck up as much cash from out of our wallets as possible.

Bought a $40 EasySMX X10 that has hall triggers and analog sticks. Use it on my PC regularly and it’s easily one of my best gaming purchases considering how much I suffered with my DS4 before. It’s also compatible with Switch.
There are also other controllers with hall effect sticks that're almost half the price of the X10 like GameSir Nova Lite. My friend also bought a Fantech Nova for his PS4 and it’s going well as far as I know.
Companies absolutely can use hall sticks for their controllers if they want. But they can't sell you new overpriced controllers if they did.

It's not that video game controllers nowadays are made cheaply or poorly, it's quite the opposite.
It's a product of video game controllers getting more and more complex as the years go on.
NES and Sega Genesis controllers from back in the day can still function now because they are comparatively very simple pieces of machinery.
There's no Bluetooth, there's no rumble, there's no joysticks, you have to deal with a few face buttons on a motherboard and that's it.
Compared to, say, a GameCube controller, there's a lot less that can go wrong with them.
Mind you, the GameCube controller is over 20 years old at this point, a DualSense 5 is way, way more advanced than that.
