My choice is the DS Lite. You get the DS and GBA games

3DS easily, you can play everything from gameboy to 3DS all on the same system. 2nd choice would be a DS if you just want to do it officially, between gba and DS and offerings you get a lot of really solid entries

A DS lite and 2DS to at least have from GBA to 3DS era. Also from can do trade evolutions from Gen 4 to Gen 7.

I get it but I was thinking ds lite for the gen 1 and 2 remakes.. plus gens 3, 4 and 5

You can also install custom firmware to play virtual console injections of all of the GBA games which adds both the original versions of gen 3 and the first remakes of gen 1.

If you mod it, you can play GB and GBA games on 3DS. So 3DS covers gen 1 to 7
